The more souls, the less cigarette butts poisoning our world! So join us and take part on No Butts Day: alone, with your neighbors, friends or group. Every butt counts (especially in the light that 1 single cigarette butt can pollute up to 1000 liters of water).
By participating, you not only help with the cleanup but also make the scale of the problem visible. Together, we show that things need to change.
Grab a litter picker or put on a glove, go on a cigarette-butt hunt, and let us know your final tally. Every butt removed from the street is a win for people, animals, and the environment.
You can view your registration on the website noplasticfilter.org This may take a few days.

Toolkit
Organize your own event at No Butts Day:
- Pick a start and end time for your event on July 4th 2026. You decide the lenght. Fifteen minutes will already yield an impressive harvest, but you can go up to 1 hour… or longer.
- Choose a location where you expect a big number of cigarette butts. Spoiler alert: that’s almost anywhere: your own street, the nearest bus stop or a square.
- Ask others to join you and take part in the count. Reach out to people in your network via social media (such as Instagram and Facebook), email, neighborhood groups, or a press release sent to the local media.
- All you need are instruments for picking up (like gloves or pinchers) and of course containers or bags.
- You can keep it simple or make it big, with an information point or market stand.
- Don’t forget to take a photo or video of your group and the harvest.
- Use the next hashtags on social media; #peukmeuk, #nobuttsday and #cigarettefilterscontainplastic.
- Let us know how many filters you’ve collected via this site.
A 1-liter bucket holds 500 cigarette butts (do not press them down, but tap the bucket firmly so they settle).

Make your own pocket ashtray
An activity to do with children. Collect empty milk cartons with a silver-colored interior and fold your own cigarette butt pocket. Cigarette butt pockets are available commercially, but why not make one yourself? Perhaps to give as a gift to that smoking uncle or neighbor. That way you have a personal gift and you give nature a helping hand!

No Butts Day Logo
The No Butts Day logo may be used for all cigarette butt campaigns around the first Saturday of July and for education on cigarette butt pollution. Please include a reference to this website.

Make your own cigarette butt catcher
You can easily make ‘cigarette butt catchers’ from empty cans. Just make sure that someone empties the cans afterwards! These stickers were created in Dutch. They serve as inspiration for a campaign in your own city or village. (Only Dutch)
